Setup the main phone number as a DID directed to an extension without any assigned user/handset. Then, set that extention to ring at two desks (primary and backup receptionist) at the same time. If neither answers after 4 rings, it goes to auto attendant.
The phones are configured for line apperance.
The problem there having is that when the calls come in, the call also triggers the intercom (i.e., line and intercom both flash). If the user presses the line before lifting the handset, they can forward the call normally. However, if they lift the handset, it ties up the intercom and the line making it impossible to put the line on hold or transfer it. How can I resolve this issue?

Incoming Calls activate Line and Intercom
Re: Incoming Calls activate Line and Intercom
We had the same problem. We solved it by switching the port from 6 to 1 on the phone server. Afterwards you need to make necessary changes in outlines setting.
